The Stain on the Wall

The Stain on the Wall

Just the other day, I had an experience that no one else would believe—in fact, I can hardly believe it myself. But before I get into that, I should start with a story from my school days.

Public restrooms, like the ones in schools, are always filthy, right? Back when I was a student, being forced to clean places like that on chore duty was just a hassle. Nobody ever took it seriously. Cleaning usually meant spraying water everywhere with a hose and calling it a day. It was hard to tell if we were actually cleaning or just playing around with water. Eventually, someone started blasting the wall with the hose too, and soon everyone was copying them, spraying water on the exact same spot every time.

Maybe it was because we kept soaking it without bothering to wipe it down, but a dark stain gradually formed on the white wall. It started looking like a person with long hair. From then on, everyone dubbed it the "haunted bathroom" and turned it into an ongoing joke.

But one day, the stain suddenly vanished. Word was that Mr. T (not his real name) had scrubbed it clean, but I found that hard to believe. A friend and I had tried cleaning it before with detergent and brushes, and it hadn't budged at all—it was a super stubborn stain. I wondered if adults knew some secret cleaning trick. I wasn't particularly fond of cleaning, but I thought if there was a trick to removing a stain like that, it'd be good to know. So after school, while hanging out with a few friends, we happened to chat with Mr. T and I brought it up casually.

"By the way, how'd you get rid of that stain on the haunted bathroom wall, Mr. T? We tried everything, but we couldn't get it off." Mr. T went quiet for a moment, then looked at us with a dead-serious expression.

"Well, the thing is... I was doing my rounds in the school building, and when I opened the door to that bathroom, there was a woman in a white dress with long hair standing right there. I thought the place was completely empty, so I freaked out. I sprinted to the faculty room, grabbed another teacher, and went back to check. But the woman was nowhere to be found. And that's when I noticed... for some reason, the stain on the wall was completely gone..."

Hit with a scary story out of nowhere, we all exchanged nervous glances. Seeing our reactions, Mr. T suddenly laughed. "Just kidding! It was a lie! I got it off with pure elbow grease! So don't go spreading weird rumors, okay?" We all breathed a sigh of relief, chuckling about how he had gotten us.

Fast forward to recent times. Years had passed, and I was now an adult. One day, I had to use the restroom at a train station. At the far end of the room, there was a stain on the wall. It looked eerily similar to the one in our old school bathroom—almost like the figure of a person. Public restrooms are usually dirty anyway, so I didn't think much of it. I finished my business, and just as I opened the stall door—

"Whoa!"

I yelled out, nearly jumping out of my skin. Standing in the restroom, completely motionless, was a woman with long hair wearing a white dress. I thought to myself, *Who is this crazy person? I need to get out of here right now,* and bolted from the restroom.

But once I cooled down and thought about it logically, questions started popping up. What was she doing in there? She was just standing there, not doing anything at all. And from her appearance, she looked like a woman. A woman in the men's room...? It made no sense. On top of that, while I was inside the stall, I hadn't heard anyone walk in, nor had I felt anyone's presence.

Curiosity got the better of me, so a few days later, I went back into that same restroom... and the stain that had been on the wall was gone.

That was when Mr. T's story suddenly rushed back to me. This is just my own theory, but... what if the stain on the wall came alive and stepped out as a ghost? I know it sounds far-fetched, but I can't think of any other explanation. Of course, it could have just been a real, living person, but then why did the stain vanish...?

Did a ghost manifest itself as a stain? Or did the stain attract a ghost? Back then, Mr. T played it off as a joke, but nowadays, I don't think he was lying at all.
