It happened during our annual summer tradition: four of us guys gathered in my apartment to tell one hundred ghost stories.
This is a ghost story one of my friends—I'll call him A—told us that night.
Apparently, A had been troubled by a recurring dream he’d been having over and over lately.
In the dream, it always starts in his room, and he hears a voice calling out from near the front door.
To figure out who it is, he leaves his room and walks toward the entryway.
He goes down the hallway that leads straight from his room, and when he reaches the entryway, he hears the voice clearly.
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
It was the voice of an older man.
But 'Yuriko' wasn't A's name.
In fact, he didn't know anyone by that name at all, so A decided it had nothing to do with him and turned to go back to his room.
Then...
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
The owner of the voice was coming closer.
(Don't come to this room.)
A couldn't help thinking that in his mind.
And in dreams, whatever you think becomes reality.
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
Finally, the voice called out from right outside his room.
When A timidly tried to look out into the hallway through the peephole...
"Ah. So this is where you were."
And as if triggered by those words, A would always wake up.
A had apparently dreamed this exact same dream seven times over the past month.
However, something changed in last night's dream.
In his dream last night, he was standing at the entryway just like usual when he heard that voice again.
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
The voice gradually grew louder.
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
Coming closer, as if checking room by room.
"Miss Yuriko~ Are you in here?"
When the voice finally stopped in front of his room, A suddenly felt... bored.
Whatever terror he had felt at first was gone; he was thoroughly sick and tired of the exact same sequence playing out over and over.
So, A called out at the top of his lungs.
"Yuriko! Someone's calling for you!"
Instantly, footsteps from inside the room started coming toward him.
Turning his gaze away from the entryway and back toward the room, a woman in her thirties with a missing arm...
"Coming~ I'll open it right now!"
...was walking toward him with a smile.
Right as she reached arm's length, A bolted awake.
This story was scary enough for me up to this point, but A ended it like this:
"You know, I always thought the room I kept seeing in that dream was my own apartment.
When I came over to your place today, I realized... That was this room."
