This is something that actually happened to me. It is the story of a close friend of mine who opened her own restaurant. When she first opened, business was pretty good because a lot of her friends and acquaintances frequented the place. But since she had no prior experience running a business, foot traffic thinned out after three months, and her hours became irregular, opening and closing whenever.

Worried about her, I called to check in, and she asked, "Could you spare some time for lunch today?" so we decided to eat together. It was a gorgeous, crystal-clear day, and hoping the nice weather might cheer her up a bit, I went to meet her at the restaurant.

I arrived first and was waiting inside when she walked in, and something felt off—a moment where I thought, "Wait, what?" But at the time, I brushed it off as just a strange feeling.

Given the angle of the sunlight, every other customer cast a distinct shadow as they entered the door, yet for some reason, she didn't have one at all. I figured my eyes were playing tricks on me. But when we started talking, she didn't touch her food, sitting there with a dark expression and doing nothing but drinking beer in the middle of the day.

She mentioned that she had taken out a loan to open her restaurant and was falling behind on payments... or something along those lines. It was way more money than I could ever help her with, so as we left the restaurant, I just encouraged her by saying she had only just started and should try hanging in there a little longer, but...

Even though I cast a clear, dark shadow, she still didn't have one.

No matter how many times I looked, her silhouette was nowhere to be seen...

Stunned, I parted ways with her without saying a word about it. Early the next morning, her daughter called me: "When I woke up, Mom had committed suicide..."

The previous day rushed back to my mind. It made me wonder if the reason she had no shadow was that, although her physical body was still present, she was already essentially dead...

Even now, looking back, it was a terrifying experience, and I can't help but believe that's why she was the only one without a shadow.
